Dutch media are reporting the latest attempts by Red Bull to help Pierre Gasly get upto speed compared to teammate Max Verstappen.

The Frenchman has fallen well short of expectations since stepping up from Toro Rosso with the last race in China the first time he had finished in the top six this season.

Such was the gap to Verstappen though, questions are still being asked as to whether Gasly will see out the season and De Telegraaf revealed some interesting details from Shanghai.

"Red Bull doesn't want the qualifying battle to finish 21-0 between Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly," journalist Erik van Haren was quoted by GPFans.com.

"In China, Gasly took some time in the Verstappen car to see what it felt like. Not on the circuit but in the garage.

"He used the same setup in qualifying and then he was behind by a second. That's a bad sign."

His report also suggested the former GP2 champion's lack of pace was also now impacting Max himself.

"I've heard that Verstappen doesn't even use data from Gasly any more, although you can still help each other as teammates," he concluded.
