The Red Bull drivers were quick to play down the small moment between them during practice at the Canadian Grand Prix.

On his low-fuel, soft tyre run, Max Verstappen would come up on a slow Pierre Gasly approaching the final chicane ruining his lap and actually resulting in the Dutchman touching the wall.

Asked about the incident post-session, Gasly blamed a late radio call for the mix-up.

“They told me quite late when I was preparing my lap to start to push,” he told Sky Sports. “By then he was like five seconds behind and they told me he hit the wall but I didn’t exactly see what happened.

“I was trying to prepare for my lap so I will see him later and talk about it."

Giving his side, Max added: "I couldn’t finish the push lap in FP2 which was unfortunate.

"As I arrived at the last chicane I was in the wake of Pierre’s car and I understeered into the wall.

"It’s a shame and we missed a bit of running but when we were running the pace was pretty decent."

In fact, despite only finishing13th overall in the second session, the 21-year-old does see potential in the RB15.

“For me FP1 was fine and I felt good in the car. It maybe didn’t look easy from the outside in FP2 but from my side, the car also felt good," Verstappen explained.

"Of course, we want to do better and I think the slippery track was also not in our favour today but the long runs look competitive, so I’m happy about that.

"Even with the disrupted running, we just have fine tuning to do for tomorrow."
