Sergio Perez was livid with Daniel Ricciardo after a fracas between the pair saw them both eliminated in Q1 during Hungarian GP qualifying.

The Australian came up on a group of cars waiting for a gap to launch their final flying laps, but rather than queue up, he tried to sneak around the outside and found himself battling with the Racing Point entering the main straight.

After a similar incident in China, Max Verstappen revealed there is a gentleman's agreement on how the drivers are meant to behave in that situation and Perez accused Ricciardo of doing the same.

“We were stuck with traffic so everyone was trying to open a gap,” he explained to Sky Sports.

“But what Daniel [Ricciardo] tried there was very disrespectful. He wrecked his lap, my lap and I end up starting my lap too close to Norris and I think Daniel was very close to me too.

“So a very bad day for us.”

Giving his view, the 30-year-old revealed his thought process which led to him trying to gun it ahead of his rivals.

“We put ourselves in traffic and at that point, I felt that we could have known better as to what was going to happen coming up to the last corner and whether I needed to create space earlier," he told the British broadcaster.

“So I wasn’t creating any space and we got to the last corner and everyone is backed up.

“What do you do? Do you try and pass them and keep your tyre temperature there or do you hang back and start the lap with cold tyres?

“So I tried to go and Perez and the others weren’t trying to have that and I felt like Perez and I just screwed each other’s lap.

“Just too late trying to make something happen and the lap is compromised.”

The result was Perez finishing only P17 behind an impressive George Russell for Williams with Ricciardo one place back in 18th.

“Right now…it’s certainly the most upset I’ve been in a while," the former Red Bull driver concluded.
