FIA add a third DRS zone for upcoming Mexican GP

Formula 1 drivers will have the opportunity to use DRS in three zones for this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix.

Since returning to the calendar in 2015, the FIA has always opted for a pair of zones to encourage overtaking, on the long main straight to Turn 1 and the follow-up run towards Turn 4.

The issue, however, has been a lack of options in the final part of the lap, so to try and boost that, DRS will be available from the exit of Turn 11 on the short straight to Turn 12, the right-hander that enters the stadium complex.

While unlikely to have a massive impact on the racing, it could at least lead to some wheel-to-wheel battles reaching the tight hairpin of Turn 13, no doubt to the delight of the thousands in one of F1's great amphitheatres.

Mexico certainly hasn't been short of action since its big comeback, notably the duel between Sebastian Vettel and the two Red Bulls in the closing laps of 2016.

And a repeat this weekend would be more than welcome!
