Yamaha have confirmed that Valentino Rossi will not be able to compete in the upcoming Gran Premio di San Marino after breaking his tibia and fibula in a training crash.

Yamaha team confiermd also that they will compete at Misano with Championship challenger Maverick Viñales as their sole rider. 

Rossi has been discharged from hospital after spending one night at the 'Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Ospedali Riuniti' in Ancona.

After receiving surgery on the fractures in his right leg, the Italian's condition improved enough for him to leave the hospital.

"I will begin the rehabilitation as soon as possible and we‘ll see how my body reacts before making any decisions." Said Rossi

"I will do everything I can to get back as soon as possible." He added

Rossi is expected to miss the Aragon round also later this month.

On Thursday night, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP‘s Valentino Rossi had a successful operation on the displaced fractures of the tibia and fibula of his right leg after an enduro accident the same evening.

Following a medical examination at the ’Ospedale Civile di Urbino', where he was initially diagnosed, the Italian was transported to the 'Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Ospedali Riuniti' in Ancona.

Upon arrival, he received surgery between 2am – 3am by Dr. Raffaele Pascarella, Director of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Division. During the surgery the fractures were fixated using a metal pin - a locked intramedullary nail - without any complications.

Further medical updates will follow in due course.

Yamaha have extended their thanks to the entire staff of the 'Ospedale Civile di Urbino' and 'Ospedali Riuniti di Ancona' for their dedication and professional care.

“The surgery went well,” Rossi said. “This morning, when I woke up, I felt already good. I would like to thank the staff of the Ospedali Riuniti in Ancona, and in particular Doctor Pascarella who operated on me.

“I'm very sorry for the incident. Now I want to be back on my bike as soon as possible. I will do my best to make it happen!”

Yamaha MotoGP‘s Valentino Rossi has been discharged from hospital after spending one night at the 'Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Ospedali Riuniti' in Ancona.

After receiving surgery on the fractures in his right leg, the Italian's condition improved enough for him to leave the hospital.

The nine-time World Champion had a good night‘s rest and felt well enough to return home at 10:00 AM, accompanied by his staff, where he will continue his recovery process.

"I spent a good night, I slept, and this morning I felt good." Said the doctor "The doctors visited me and they gave me the OK to go home, where I'll be able to rest even better."

"I will begin the rehabilitation as soon as possible and we‘ll see how my body reacts before making any decisions."

"I have to say "thanks" once again to all the staff of the ’Ospedali Riuniti‘ in Ancona, but also Urbino's First Aid and the 118 Service, as well as all the friends that came to visit me." He added

"As I said yesterday, I will do everything I can to get back as soon as possible."

Following an enduro training accident on Thursday, August 31st, nine-time World Champion Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was diagnosed with displaced fractures of the tibia and fibula of his right leg.

The Italian will undergo surgery as soon as possible.

A further medical bulletin will be issued later on Friday morning.

The surgery was confirmed after tThe 38-year-old Italian rider was taken to the 'Ospedale Civile di Urbino' for a check-up.
