Antonio Giovinazzi believes strong results will be enough to keep him at Alfa Romeo beyond 2020.

The Italian has enjoyed a better start to this season, scoring the teams only points with a ninth place in the opening race in Austria, but he's still being regularly beaten by teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

Antonio's cause also wasn't helped by a crash last weekend at Spa, however, with a chance to bounce back at his home race at Monza this weekend, he remains optimistic about his future.

“I think, first of all, I came to Formula 1 and I don’t have any big names behind me or any big sponsor behind me,” he was quoted by Motorsport Week on Thursday,

“I’m here just because of results and talent. I know that in F1 it is critical, you need to be always on a good shape every race weekend.

“I know also that many times one week you can be a bad driver and then the next week just after a few days you can be a hero.

“From my side I know that if I continue like I’m doing, to be fast and to try to score the points for the team nobody can take my seat for next year.

“We [will] see what happens but I’m quite sure from what I need to do: be fast and be consistent.”

The bigger problem Giovinazzi faces, however, is his seat is usually reserved for a Ferrari junior and this year, their Academy has three youngsters leading the way in F2.

Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott are first and second in the Drivers' standings, while Mick Schumacher is fourth having scored the most podiums of anyone.

And speaking in Spa, Mick's uncle, former Williams and Toyota driver, Ralf Schumacher predicted an all-new line-up at Alfa in 2021.

“Everyone knows about the close co-operation between Ferrari and Alfa Romeo, it would make sense to place a newcomer there,” he told Sky Germany.

“I also think they are looking for two new drivers, an experienced man and a promising driver. Maybe negotiations are already underway with Nico Hulkenberg.”

And Ralf believes it won't be long until the process of evaluating the three Academy prospects begins.

“For Alfa Romeo, things are not going so well at the moment to say the least, and you don’t lose much if you let a young driver participate on a Friday,” he said.
