Sergio Perez hopes Red Bull will make their decision on his future during Formula 1's upcoming summer break.

The Mexican has had a respectable first 10 races at the Milton Keynes-based team, of course, highlighted by his victory in Azerbaijan last month.

However, in fulfilling his expected role in supporting Max Verstappen against Mercedes, Perez has been mixed, with some strong races such as at Paul Ricard and more difficult ones like at Silverstone.

“Obviously, the sooner you know your future the better," Checo said on Thursday. “But I am in a very comfortable position within the team, with my future, so nothing to worry about.

"I think by Belgium [in late August] I will know my future, so I am comfortable how things are and [there is] no reason to look elsewhere.”

While Perez only has the two podium finishes so far at Red Bull, he also believes his performance has been better than it might appear.

"I think the overall picture, I would have liked more in terms of points and wins and podiums," he conceded.

“In general terms, I think I have grown up a lot with the team, which was the target in the first 10 races, to get to know each other and the car.

“Overall, the results have not been great in one way but in the other, the pace is better than it looks and it is very small margins here and there.

“We are a couple of points away from third in the championship, we are leading the Constructors, so there are positives to take.

"But it’s only 10 races into the season. I think the next 10 are more important.”

The one driver potentially making a case to take Perez's seat is AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly, who is eyeing a second chance at Red Bull.

However, while the Frenchman has impressed again this season, he admits his hopes for a return to the senior team are slim.

“I think it is pretty clear on my end," he explained.

"It is in Red Bull’s hands and Max is signed for next year in the top team. Sergio, I think, has a one year contract so we will see what happens there and then what we do going forward together.

“I am obviously contracted with them for some more time and I am pretty confident we should get some answers at some point during the summer break or after the summer break.”
