Unseen by TV cameras, Sergio Perez narrowly avoided two marshals under the Safety Car during the Monaco Grand Prix.

Recovering back to their post, they ran into the pit-lane exit just as the Mexican was accelerating on the approach to Sainte Devote after changing tyres.

While Perez did hit the brakes, he wouldn't stop in time before flashing past the track workers who were likely more concerned of cars coming down the main straight.

"What was wrong with those marshals? I nearly killed them," he said on the radio.

"That was really bad. They were just running back and I was coming out of the pits. I had to brake and they were very lucky that I avoided them," the Racing Point driver added post-race.

"They're normally very good here [the marshals]. It's obviously safety, at the end of the day it's most important the safety for the marshals and drivers."

As for his race, Perez battled with Kevin Magnussen and had two attempts to overtake at the chicane after the tunnel.

“I tried a move on Magnussen which I think was all correct but he cut the chicane so he just got a warning,” he said.

“The warning didn’t change anything as we only have one move in Monaco and when you do it and then the car ahead cuts the chicane there is no more opportunity for it.

“I think there has to be a little chicane or something so the people that cut the chicane should lose some time. It is something we have to review in the coming races.”

Post-race the stewards relooked at the incident and would give the Haas driver a five-second penalty, promoting Perez to P12 in the final standings.
