Daniel Ricciardo was annoyed with Renault again after a bad strategy call at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Australian made a key move on Kevin Magnussen to steal fifth at Sainte Devote but would lose track position after pitting under the Safety Car on Lap 12 caused by Charles Leclerc.

As the field spread out, those that didn't pit were then able to pull enough of a margin to emerge ahead from their own pit-stop.

“We have to figure it out, I got caught at Rasscasse and as soon as they said ‘box’ I had no time to react differently,” he explained.

“Obviously, it wasn’t the right call.

“I’ll settle and we’ll sort it out as a team what we could have done better. For now, we have to have a look, see what they saw at the time and why they brought us in.

“We both came in and handed everyone else the positions. It’s a shame because we had a great start, Kevin was our target. We had a good Turn 1 and got into fifth, that was really our place.

“We could have had a really good result today.”

As it was, Ricciardo put in a massive effort to catch and pass Romain Grosjean in the closing laps for an eventual ninth-place finish.
