Haas could be docked Constructors' points in the wake of team boss Guenther Steiner's outburst following the Russian Grand Prix.

The outspoken Italian and his driver Kevin Magnussen were furious with the stewards' after the Dane was given a five-second penalty for failing to round the bollards having gone wide at Turn 2 battling Sergio Perez.

Though a late sprint allowed Magnussen to still claim ninth he called the penalty "bulls**t" on the radio with Steiner blaming a "stupid idiotic steward".

Afterwards, FIA race director Michael Masi wouldn't be drawn on the comments but stated any legal channels would be followed and now the possible punishments have been revealed.

According to Motorsport-Total, Steiner could be fined $250k, banned from the paddock for one race or, most severely, Haas may lose some of their Constructors' Championship points.

If that latter punishment is given it would all-but guarantee the American squad finishing ninth in the standings as they currently sit in that position with only nine points this season.

Even worse, despite an improved weekend in Sochi, Haas concede it is very difficult to predict performance going forward.

"Even having had a good race in Sochi, it doesn’t mean that this form will carry on," Steiner said.

"For sure, we’ll try to carry it on, but the car is very temperamental, to say the least, and we never know on any given weekend where we’ll end up.

"You’re always learning when you’re racing. Hopefully, we can carry that form into Suzuka and beyond."
