Mick Schumacher has opened up on his "fascinating" experience so far at Mercedes.

The young German was snapped up as a reserve driver at the Brackley-based team after he was dropped by Haas at the end of last season.

Since then, Schumacher has been present at every race and is often seen alongside team boss Toto Wolff during sessions.

And writing on the Mercedes website, Mick revealed the biggest thing he's noticed while in the garage.

“As a driver, you usually do not get to hear what is going on between all the engineers while you are out on the track,” he said.

“So listening in during the sessions has been extremely interesting. I was quite shocked at the season opener in Bahrain, I did not expect the sheer amount of exchanges that happen

“You don’t know what you’re missing until you are actually part of it.”

Schumacher also insists he is not a silent observer at Mercedes, where he finds himself working with many who were there with his father, seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher, between 2010 and 2012.

“What I really appreciate in working with those engineers is that they are genuinely listening to you and your opinion matters," he added.

"And what is special from an emotional side is that many people who are working for the team now were working here when my dad was driving."

Schumacher has equally been surprised by the amount he's learnt in just the four or so months since joining Mercedes.

“It’s been fascinating working with Lewis [Hamilton] and George [Russell]," the 24-year-old stated. "It’s an interesting period for me as I get to look over and work with two fantastic drivers, which you don’t always get to do.

"I’ve learned a lot about what’s important in terms of approaching race weekends; I feel like I’ve already gained so much knowledge to add to my skill set.

"I didn’t think I would have learned and gained so much so early into my role.”
